Human nature.

If there's one thing in the history of public policy that should be completely clear to anyone, it's that if you make something illegal that a lot of people want to do, a lot of people become outlaws. For some stupid reason though, politicians and do-gooders in society keep havin' to learn the lesson again and again, at our expense. This story proves it's true.

Read up on Prohibition in the 1920s and the "Drug War" today and ask yourself how much time and money have we wasted in the last 100 years tryin' to keep some folks from gettin' wasted? Now the Nanny State fuckers are after candy? Please! These kids aren't fat because of candy and soda. They're fat because the same schools that outlaw candy also ban things like dodge ball and recess. Little Johnny might have his ego bruised because he gets his knee scraped. Or more likely, little Johnny's mom will sue the school.

There'll always be someone in government who thinks they know what's best for the rest of us and won't stop at the constitution before issuing a new law whittling away at yet another of our liberties, one by one, telling us "It's for your own good". And they're willing to fine or jail as many people as it will take to achieve whatever goal they've set. And it'll never end, because there's seemingly no end to the folks who think they've got a lock on righteousness, who want to make us live by their rules.

That realization, when it hits you, might kinda makes you feel like this guy.

As much as fear of liability, schools take away much of the extracurricular activities (music, PE, art) so that they can spend more and more time teaching kids how to pass tests instead of the material they need to know the subjects.

Yep, the law of supply and demand will always prevail..if there is a demand someone will take the risk to supply the demand...

Ah, the blindness of being liberal.

Couldn't agree more, FHB. But they never learn, do they?

You know, sometimes I wish I was a liberal so I could blame everything that goes wrong on somebody else. Then I tell myself, grow the fuck up.
