Oddly enough, I grew up reading the Uncle Remus stories and I never knew "Tar Baby" was a racial epithet until I was 20 something. In "Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby," Brer Rabbit punches the tar baby and gets tar all over him and gets embedded in the tar baby and can't get out, so I imagine that's the reference the guy was going for. Shit, it's gotten so everything is a hot-button these days, hasn't it? Screw 'em all if they can't take a joke.
World is slathered in humorless dolts. Then again, some people get offended for a living.
