This guy is always interesting if not profound. His peak was back in the early to mid 1970s, when he came up with this tune, and many like it. He put out a double album at one point called Decade, laying out his best stuff from the several bands he had been affiliated with. It's a great one it you're interested. This is a little shot from a TV show. Must be the BBC or Canadian TV, or maybe Dick Cavett. Enjoy.

I almost stop listening to Neil because of the "southern man what have you done" line and song, 'cause I had nothing to do with that and don't like to be blamed for it.
I was glad Lynyrd Skynyrd fought back, as the years went by I had to admit that his body of work was worth a listen...except for "Southen Man".
I you pick a song I have prepared for a Friday Night Blues selection (I do the post a week in advance), I'm going to be pissed! But not long.
Yep, I know what you mean. That song painted with a broad brush, but it's still one of his that I love to hear. Never took it too personal, having been raised in many places outside the South before I got to Texas. I don't like the broad brush, but I know which Southern men he's talkin' about, and we all know them. Hell, we've got some of them in our families. They're still around, but they're not as loud as they used to be. I also loved Lynyrd Skynyrd's song, basically sayin' "Yea, we know we've got these folks around, but fuck you anyway!" The song makes it sound like all the bigots are in the South, but I know why a Canadian, living in New England or California, would think that. Something to do with the fact that for a very long time, the only people you saw on TV with real Southern accents, unless it was on Andy Griffith, was a dumb-ass redneck who was there to be the hateful character in the plot. Ether that or they were just stupid. You can still see a lot of that when you watch "Oh Brother Where Art Thou". Hell, even Andy had Earnest "T" Bass rollin' through every once and a while. Let everyone laugh at the monkey from the hills.
Can't stand him or his tunes.
I'm not a particular fan of Neil Young, but I really do like a few of his songs. Saw him with Sonic Youth and Social Distortion at Reunion Arena in about 1991 - that was a transcendent musical event. Great stuff.
