We have always known terrorist - do call them brave or simply fanatical?
Terrorist are brainwashed idiots, pure and simple. The good news though is, they're usually crunchy.
It's a toss up on that one. There's a level of fanaticism where bravery turns into something else, like crazed zealotry. Then there's the bravery of the guy who charges the machine gun nest, knowing he'll probably die, but doing it anyway.
We think of these guys as nuts who were brainwashed, but many of them were simply convinced that they were going to die anyway, so why not make it count? Take out a ship in a blaze of glory. The guy in the water with the grenade though brings us back to brainwashed looney who needs to die.
But then, there's the cultural differences that we in our society would see as brainwashing, but they simply saw as dedication to their nation and leader. Sounds like cultural brainwashing. Totalitarian societies do a good job of it.
All I can say is that they are crazy bastards... sheesh. that was scary.
I got a kick out of the Cheech and Chong routine about the Kamakazi pilots in traing.."Honorable General Sir: Are you out of your fucking mind?"
And of course the French kamakazi squadron that were all aces..

I wondered if it was colorized. You don't see much color footage from that war.

It turns out that a lot of the footasge taken in the Pacific was in color. We're used to seeing black and white film from the European theatre. It's only recently that they've found lots of nice color footage from there as well. So I'd bet this isn't colorized. They may have gone in and retouched the color. It's very vivid.
