Oh...

And no, I really don't believe in Ghosts. David has tasked his readers to fess up again this week, so here it is.

I'd LOVE to see a ghost, but never have, and don't really believe I could. I know millions of people have claimed to see them, but I think it's a testament to the minds ability to trick the eye or ear. Folks want to believe, and that's cool, but it don't make it so.

I'd LOVE to see a Bigfoot, or Nessy, or a woman in my bed who looks like Brigitte Bardot at 19, in the flesh...

but I don't think there is such a thing, or ever will be. That shit doesn't happen to guys like me. I know, I need to believe in it to make it happen, but there are some things that just seem beyond the scope of possibility. Seeing a ghost is also one of those things. Boy howdy, would I LOVE to, but I never have, and it doesn't seem possible to me, so I have little faith.

People invest so much energy in these ideas, they end up manipulating themselves into seeing things that aren't there. Happens all the time, even in politics and love, to the extent that I think it must be a totally natural state of the human mind. Next thing you know you're telling yourself that the sweet, plump little woman that makes you so happy is your Brigitte, and that's enough. She's not the total package, but she loves you, and she's probably the best package you're gonna get. Maybe it's a defense mechanism, like that black shield membrane that falls over a sharks eye just before it takes a bite out of a surfer. Easier to deal with than the truth, but who knows what the hell that is?

I love a good scare, like the next person. And of course, being a history dude, I'd LOVE to be able to see someone from the past. I get a huge charge out of people saying that they've walked over something like an old Civil War battlefield and actually seen soldiers marching by. I saw a thing once about a place in England where people see Roman soldiers marching out of one wall into another, where an old Roman road crosses under a house. God, I'd LOVE to see something like that! It would rock!

Now, there are things that happen to people that are difficult to understand or explain. But just because something is inexplicable, doesn't make it spiritual. I hope with all my heart that there's an after world. There's folks I'd like to see again, or for the first time. But thinking about it rationally, between funerals, I don't think there is one. I don't think there are spirits, and that's that. I know, DULL!

And dig this, if there ain't no scary or weepy ghosts, how can there be a Holy Ghost? OK, that's another story. I'm of two minds, and Dave will probably get to that eventually. I don't want to give him the bum rush.

Love ya work. Love the way you work BB into a ghost post. Man, you are a genius.

How do you do it? You always bring a new angle to any discussion.

I'll have to enrol in one of your class - or two, or three.

Love your creativity and your irreverence....

Keep smiling

David

I didn't see any soldiers--except for the ones doing the reenacting--on the Gettysburg battlefields when we walked them, but it WAS incredibly sad and depressing. If mom and dad hadn't dragged us there, I would have NEVER gone there. That is NOT my idea of a vacation.

I love world history, and think it would be mighty cool to see something from the past in mystical ghost form, but I'm not all so sure that kind of thing really happens.

Brigitte Bardot as a ghost couldn't do you much good...she needs to be flesh and blood...hot blood!

Don't believe in ghost of any kind - the Holy Ghost is a totally different subject, but I will not get into it now.

David - Thanks man. I really apreciate that. I guess I should always wait till I'm exhausted and pissed before I compose.

Goddess - I want to go there, but i haven't had the chance yet. Went to Shiloh once, and it was beautiful, but I didn't see any ghosts ether.

Diva - My thoughts exactly.

Mushy - Dude, you missed the point. I meant to say that I'd love to see a ghost, and a woman like BB in my bed, "in the flesh...", but I think the one is about as likely to happen as the other. It would rock though, and I haven't totally given up hope of seeing ether one some day.

I don't know about the ghost, but if you have enough money you can get a BB look-alike in your bed.:)

What you say makes sense. I believe in something, but I dont think that there is one word to describe it. Not 'ghosts' though.

David--his classes ARE as enjoyable as his posts. That I can vouch for.

The ghost of young Bridget Bardot can enter my dreams anytime...but don't tell my wife!

Right with you, FHB. That kinda stuff always happens to someone else. I've always said I'll believe it when I see it, but I haven't seen it yet, and something tells me I'm not likely to. Theres a helluva lot of people out there that do believe - witness the popularity of the "coast to coast" radio show...

You said it, the one that cares about you is your Brigitte. Your story was wonderful, the one after vacation and you were driving home, knowing that the love of your life was waiting for you. It doesn't get any better than that.

No ghosts, I'm too hard-headed to believe.
My Oma (German Grandma) firmly believed that her brother, who died in WWI when she was five years old, visited her to say good-bye the very night he died.
She also (supposedly) learned from an old gypsy woman how to tell the future with a regular deck of cards. She taught my Mom, but both of them refused to teach me, and now it's too late!
I'd love to time-travel, too, as long as I had a bubble of protection around me, though!

The few people I have known who claim to have experienced a ghostly presence are people not inclined to flights of fancy, but still... I dunno... It would almost be nice to experience just for verification of something else out there, but I'm cynical...

I hope your latest squeeze doesn't peek in here - I'd be a bit pissed off to think I was not the "total" package, but just the best my man can hope to settle for!!

Is it just me, or are you feeling a little low this week? I don't feel that spring in your step. I hope all's well with you, my friend. ((x))

I have seen a ghost and I have friends in my neighborhood who live in an old house and they see a woman going up the stairs with a long dress and high collar (19th century outfit) all the time. They exist!

Shame on you, makin' poor little Shrink think you're ill!

She just didn't know you were sufferin' withdrawal symptoms from those "good" cigars Mushy spoiled ya' on!

But you feel better now, don't you? Especially once you break the seal on those Ashtons!

Go ahead, DO IT! You can't enjoy 'em DEAD...!!!

FHB said...

Oh, I'm ok. Just tired, and thinkin' about my options. Not really seein' too many right now. Depressing.

Don't get too down on yourself. Everyone has those days. Even me, believe it or not. :)

I knew it. Everything is a cycle, ride it through, it'll pass. (Shit, you're the history boff here, take a lesson from it.) Have to confess, I'm feeling a wee bit that on that side myself, too -but at least I can lay blame for that on my time of the month - so c'mon what's your excuse?? Remember how loved you are, bonny lad. x

So I'm curious - has Brigitte got back to you?

Are her people talkin' to your people?

Never seen a spook of the kind you are talking about..did know a couple of company spooks one time and them sumbitches were eerie enough for me.

There has been a belief in the supernatural every since humans climbed down out of trees and started living in them Jim Walter' houses. Maybe it has something to do with the fear of the unknown..and what you get with a Jim Walter's house can be unknown...

You're killin me! How are you going to start chatting and then just dissapear? Ugh. Check your answering machine when you get home, and dammit quit teasing!

I'd love to see "Fathairybastard" on my donation site for Ms. Bee, if you're still up to donating!

(I think it would be great to say, "And THIS...this $ is from a fat hairy bastard")

LOL

If you haven't seen odd things first hand, it is very logical to be utterly skeptical. Mark was like that, too.
